Probabilistic Heavy Snow And Icing Discussion
Nws Hydrometeorological Prediction Center Camp Springs Md 525 Pm Est Mon Feb 12 2007 Valid 00z Tue Feb 13 2007 - 00z Fri Feb 16 2007 Day 1... nrn/central Plains To The Oh Valley... Sfc Low Pressure Was Beginning To Develop Over The Srn Plains On Monday Afternoon As A Shortwave Trof Comes Out Of The Central/srn Rockies. The Surface Cyclogenesis Is Aided By Being Located Between The Right Entrance Region Of A Northern Jet And The Left Exit Region Of A Southern Stream Jet As It Moves Northeast Into The Oh/tn Valley By 14/00z. The Northern Part Of The Pcpn Shield Will Be Cold Enough For All Snow...but Southerly Low Level Flow Will Be Increasing To More Than 50 Kts Which Is Forecast To Draw Enough Warmth And Moisture Northward For A Belt Of Freezing Rain And Sleet From Parts Of Il Eastward Into The Oh Valley. Mass Field Differences Are Rather Subtle From The Southern Great Lakes Into The Oh Valley...although The Differences Yield Some Notable Difference In Snow And Ice Amounts. We Tended To Start With The Gfs And Gradually Incorporate More Nam By The End Of The Period Based On The Fact That The Gfs Appears To Flatten Out The Mid Level Features Too Fast. I am only a weather enthusiast, my opinions are just that, my opinions. Alway's stay informed with your local weather pro's. |

Rain changed to heavy wet snow here in ne Kansas. Even some rumbles of thunder. Very large wet flakes that are having no problem sticking to the ground. Would not be surprised to see well over 6 inches by morning.
