StormLab Beta 4.0 Is out !!!
If its true that it won't have a smoothing feature that may hurt sales. Undoubtedly the most popular feature of GR3, the most popular software, is the smoothing feature. I can't ever recall seeing a screen shot of that program that wasn't smoothed. If you took away that from GR3 it wouldn't be as widely used.
Now, being that I don't know what the new version of StormLab will offer it could be a moot point as all the other features it has could make the user forget about a smoothing feature. |

StormLab Beta 4.0 Is out !!!
Anyone who's used our product for the past 1 week or 8 years knows that the bottom line (sales) is not what I and my staff are about. As a meteorologist, a storm chaser, a software engineer, a researcher and a public outreach person...the goal for us is to provide folks with a versitale, customizable solution that can be used by the most basic hobbyist or the most advanced meteorologist, while preseting the data in a scientifically sound format. Folks should be able to make sound decisions with our software. A lot of software developers write software based on specifications given to them. We use the software we write every day.
I'm not against smoothing despite what people think, however such an algorithm should maintain the integrity of the data. I can provide hundreds of examples where this has failed in the existing algorithms that are out there, and while no algorithm is perfect, these glaring flaws are the reason why the NWS will not incorporate existing algorithms into their operations. If you know someone with the mathematical programming skills to provide smoothing, interpolation or whatever you want to call it that is scientifically sound and preseves small scale meteorological features, send them my way. I would hate to think folks would shy away from V4.0 for a visual enhancement vice all the features, speed, customization, etc...that the software current has and will have to offer. These are not the type of folks I think are suited for our products. They are the same type of people who want you to "Baron-ize" the software because they "see it on TV", and for 1/1000th the cost of Baron. Then I can only imagine the legal ramifications of being sued by crossing a copyright or trademark. Alright, enough said ![]() ![]() Evan |
