StormLab Beta 4.0 Is out !!!
There seems to be alot more talk about SL4.0 here that at interwarn. They really don't want to say too much about and I understand, but I have waiting seems like on the edge of my seat I'm anxious about it's release I would like to at least see some screen shots also it's like a kid waiting for christmas to get here.Have you heard anything at all about some of the new features?I've heard it may have an option for smoothing without buying any new hardware for your computer. That would be great...

I completly agree with you. They are so good at keeping stuff a secret, altho i understand that they want it to be a big suprise, so that may be why there is no screenshot to keep whatever excellent things they have in there a secret until the end. Im a little confused about the BETA. Im hoping to see a screenshot when the beta is being tested, but they said in that post that they cannot talk about it in other forums like here. So im guessing that they are picking ppl that can keep a very good secret (Trusted ppl). On the other hand its hard for me to imagine that 1 of those trusted ppl wont show some 1 a screenshot. If they do, im sure its gona be all over this forum and other private forums. About the features, As i read it says they are looking for ppl with the SpotterNetwork. I belive the spotternetwork is like what they have in SwiftWX except SwiftWX has its own spotters, kinda hard to explain but i think you can understand. If you are confused in what i just said, click the link in my sig, u can register there for free(Click National Activity), thats what i belive will be their own kind of public reporting system, if you get the client for that SpotterNetwork, you can see there is a setting for your GPS. Im a big noob and just realized a few days ago that he said AllisonHouse feeds, i know what feeds are, but i realized to get those feeds you (MAY) have to pay AllisonHouse to get those feeds, in other words (Storm lab wont give you those feeds from AllisonHouse for free). So if thats true, there will be some options in the client that you will need to pay monthly for (2 bad then i wont have every option). Im hoping that the testing will go well, and it will come out before or during Christmas.

Note: EVERYTHING I JUST SAID IS NOT PROVEN!!!

Let just hope for the best!!

AllisonHouse Owner here...

I've not even seen SL4.0 myself..though I know it's working with some of the AllisonHouse feeds as I can see it in my logs Wink

I believe StormLab will come with some of their own feeds for free. You'll be able to utilize the AllisonHouse feeds if you want. So for example..if you want lightning data...you'd have to pay AllisonHouse since somebody has to pay USPLN..they don't give that out for free Smile

I didn't realize a beta was starting soon....must be why Evan was asking me about timelines for finishing up some of the other feeds Smile

Tyler, indeed that was a hint to get your butt back to work Smile I'm excited to have 12 Thanksgiving vacation days starting Sunday to really get a lot of work done.

As Tyler stated, V4.0 will continue to provide free feeds of warnings, watches (new) and surface observations to Professional version users. Additional feeds -- Lightning data, storm reports, mesoscale discussions, buoy data, mesonets, and much more will require an optional AllisonHouse subscription (which honestly has a price that's too good!) and a new third tier of StormLab -- still to be named.

The same applies for the data, the existing level III feed will remain free with Tyler's Level III feed also an option. Level II data will require the third tier of StormLab 4.0, with a source of your choosing -- AllisonHouse or the newer university feeds.

The SpotterNetwork portion of StormLab acts as both a client and a "server" if you will. More info available at spotternetwork.org. As an AllisonHouse client, you will be able to overlay the position and data from all spotters reporting through the network onto the radar imagery. In addition, you will be able to send your position automatically into the network from within StormLab. Furthermore, you will be able to send storm reports directly into the NWS from within StormLab.

Do I have screen shots? Of course, but they will not be posted at this time. Beta testers need only meet the requirments posted on our forums (actually not that hard and probably several thousand folks could meet those terms). As stated in the NDA, if you chose to post a screen shot or other facit of the software without our expressed conset, I would really hate to be in your shoes. These agreements are legally binding and I would really hate to see someone throw their life in the toilet all to get their 15 minutes of fame. After well over a year of work on revamping this thing in every spare minute I'm not with my full time job or family, you have no idea how eager I am to share it with you guys.

Best,
Evan

Glad to see that Evan has posted some of the ideas here on the boards as he has on the Interwarn boards. I have talked with Evan on many occasions and he seems to be very excited about this new software and is pumped for the release. I, like many of you, hope I can aid in assisting with the beta testing for this software so we can get it out there and online. Evan makes a very clear point to testers and I hope that everyone takes that "threat/promise" very seriously. I would hate to see someone go under a jail cell due to a software program. Smile Also, Tyler keep up the great work. I have been subscribed with your products since they have been on the market and unless you are using an AWIPS workstation, it would be hard to beat what Tyler has made available to the general public for such a small fee. :pirate:
