He even said it was because of legal issues which is procedures that must be taken before he can order people to leave their homes are be faced with no help from the officials. He said Saturday night that Sunday morning he would issue the mandatory evacuation. That is when I got everything together to leave early Sunday.
The mayor absolutely has the right to order a mandatory evacuation. In fact this happened in many other communities on Friday, and Saturday..this whole legal thing is a smokescreen...and besides, if this was such a legal issue that needed to be researched, why wasn't it done way ahead of time instead of at the last minute when New Orleans is in a hurricane danger zone every year....this gets more ridiculous all the time./shocked

No, what's really ridiculous is (was it) Plaqumines called for an evacuation that early and the mayor was ridiculed for doin' so. This is a no win situation. Storm...callin' that a day or two earlier would NOT have made a bit of difference. Those people didn't leave NOT because the man. evac. was called when it was...but b/c (1) they didn't want to and/or (2) they didn't have a "way" to get out. Freggin' PERIOD!!!

SOME people would have...to say otherwise is just unfathombable...some would stay sure, but that isn't the problem,he chickened out out of fear of being sued by the hotel and tourist industry instead of putting public safety number one. It's like the former mayor of New Orleans, Marc H. Morial, said of Nagin..."he didn't have a disaster plan because HE WAS the disaster"

No one said he didn't have the right to order one. I said certain things had to happen before he could. Many other communities are not the size of New Orleans and this mandatory evacuation with the FIRST of a city of the size of New Orleans.

It is not that legal issued needed to be researched....things had to be in place to handle the consequences of calling one.

You keep saying he should have called a mandatory evacuation sooner when you have no idea what that involves....it involves a whole lot more then just telling people to leave. I cannot continue to discuss this with you when you either don't care or don't want to know what it involves because obviously you have done no research as to what a mandatory evacuation entails and just keep repeating over and over again he should have done it sooner.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

I have done research and you have a closed mind that only you know the answers,so let's agree to not talk about it with each other anymore:confused: By the way, they did a simulated drill Called Hurricane Pam to prepare for this type of event so everything was supposed to be figured out BEFORE a freakin' hurricane is about to hit...to avoid this type of negligence, but with an incompetant leader in charge the plans weren't ready and weren't followed.

Yes he was the diaster to Morial since he help with the investigation of the corruption in Morial's administration. You are being led by stories you hear and/or read and have no idea what takes place when a mandatory evacuation is ordered. Ignoring the facts does not change them. If you think someone can just call for a mandatory evacuation without taking care of details that cannot be taken care of in advance you are very naive.

You are very naive Ladybug...again these plans were supposed to be ready to go WAY ahead of time and not figured out at the last minute.I have dozens of sources to prove that fact, but you are never wrong so screw it.I'm done with you on it.:gun2:
