New ThreatNet Plus from Baron Services is essentially mobile threat net with some new features, and maybe some better mapping.

Anyone here have any Baron products?

Threat net plus is generally going to be the same thing. As a matter of fact, several products aren't going to be available on Threat Net+ that are actually available on Mobile Threat Net such as shear product.

ThreatNet+ is also going to be an internet feed based product. Mainly for EMA/Local School officials to use I would assume. Some TV stations will likely use it to track chasers and spotters through APRS or the users of Mobile Threat Net with GPS.

Fred Gossage Wrote:TV stations already have this ability...BUT BETTER.....in FasTrac. This program is designed as an upgrade from the ThreatNet, the land-based connection version, not Mobile. The only real addition there is besides any minor mapping updates, is it has more winter support.

Brett interns at TV stations in the weather department, so he knows all about that

But for anyone else, great summarization.

If you're talking about Fastrac, it has all of those. If you mean Threatnet, then correct .

First of all, I do some "work" with a local TV stations weather department in the Birmingham metro area. That's about as far as I will or can go with that at this point in time.

As for Fred's comments, he is correct. Fred has aided in my training over the past few years in which I am greatly appreciative. Over the past year or so, he and I still discuss weather events from past and possible ones in the coming days. Fred was the first to introduce me to FasTRAC and VIPIR. I will be able to introduce him to a few new things that I am currently learning with the VIPIR soon. Smile

I'm hoping that the future brings many new experiences for Fred and myself, but for the record I did get my start on learning a good bit of the more technical stuff from Fred. Refer to the Severe Weather Forum for a very good post on Low Amplitude and High Amplitude wave patterns in severe weather.

EDIT: As for ThreatNet+, I do know that the stations use FasTRAC/VIPIR to track there vehicles on the radar....BUT there are some interns that will use ThreatNet+ to do ths same thing. Especially when there is a staff full of meteorologists at a station and interns are sometimes pushed to the side. Smile

It should be noted that in the post I made this morning, I was not trying to come across as a jack-a/censor ......I was just pointing out that I also know what I'm talking about..... Like Brett said, I've been his "mentor" with the more technical aspects of forecasting for a while now........ If there are any questions you ever have, if I see them on here, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability........

Also, Fred is very well aware of all of the features of FasTRAC and Threat Net. As do I. We have both used the system and rather frequently actually. Smile

No, you didn't come across like that at all. I wasn't aware that was the case, and I can't wait until I get the oppurtunity to use those programs !
