Only people with oversized egos believe that mankind has caused global warming.

Scientific Consensus is an Oxymoron

WPC WINTER EATHER FORECAST

[font=arial, helvetica]PROBABILISTIC HEAVY SNOW AND ICING DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
432 AM EST WED FEB 12 2014

VALID 12Z WED FEB 12 2014 - 12Z SAT FEB 15 2014

...SOUTH/SOUTHEAST AND UP THE EAST COAST...

A WINTER STORM WITH HIGH SOCIETAL IMPACT IS IN ITS BEGINNING
STAGES ACROSS THE SOUTH/SOUTHEAST AND WILL PROCEED UP THE EAST
COAST ON THURS... ESSENTIALLY EXTENDING FROM AL/GA/TN TO NEW
ENGLAND.

A WELL-DEFINED SHORTWAVE TROUGH EMBEDDED WITHIN THE SOUTHERN
STREAM IS MOVING INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY EARLY THIS MORNING AND
BEGINNING TO INDUCE A WAVE OF LOW PRESSURE NEAR THE CENTRAL GULF
COAST OR ALONG A WELL-DEFINED BAROCLINIC ZONE. INCREASING LOW
LEVEL SOUTH-SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW IS ALREADY PRODUCING STRONG
ISENTROPIC LIFT OVER A COLD ARCTIC SURFACE HIGH NOSING INTO THE
REGION... THIS SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH MOST OF THE DAY WITH
ADDITIONAL LIFT AFFORDED BY THE RIGHT-ENTRANCE REGION OF A
110-130KT 250MB JET STREAK. THIS IS AND WILL SET THE STAGE FOR A
SIGNIFICANT/POTENTIALLY HISTORICAL ICE STORM FOR PORTIONS OF THE
SOUTHEASTERN U.S. AND VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL ACROSS THE INTERIOR
SOUTHEAST/SRN MID-ATL STATES OR CLOSE TO THE APPALACHIANS. THE
CONFLUENT UPPER LOW ALOFT IS ALREADY ALLOWING THE SURFACE RIDGE
EAST OF THE MTNS TO FUNNEL SOUTH A RE-INTENSIFYING SURGE OF THE
COLD DENSE AIR VIA A STIFF NERLY WIND COMPONENT. THIS DENSE AIR
MASS WILL SURGE INTO SC/GA AND UNDERCUT THE IMPRESSIVE MID-LEVEL
WARMING FOR AN EXTENSIVE PARALYZING EVENT WITH 1 INCH ICE
ACCUMULATIONS FROM JUST SOUTHEAST OF THE ATL METRO AREA OR EAST OF
MCN THROUGH AGS TO CENTRAL SC INCLUDING CAE AND .50 INCH
ACCUMULATIONS FROM JUST SOUTH OF ATL/FFC TO FLO AND POSSIBLY
SPREADING SOUTH AND EAST TO THE IMMEDIATE COASTLINE OF CHS.
MEANWHILE... MODEL THERMAL PROFILES INDICATE CONDITIONS FAVORABLE
FOR A SWATH OF HEAVY SNOWFALL DEVELOPING NORTH AND WEST OF THE ICE
FROM NRN GA/ERN TN UP INTO UP EAST OF THE APPALACHIANS OR THROUGH
UPSTATE SC/WRN NC INTO SWRN/CENTRAL VA WITH MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF 12
INCHES AND LOCALLY GREATER ACROSS WRN NC. THE BAROCLINIC LEAF AND
WARM ADVECTION PRECIP SHIELD WILL BEGIN TO REACH THE HEART OF THE
I95 CORRIDOR OR THE DC/BALT REGION LATE WED EVENING INTO THURS
MORNING.

THE ACTION THEN SHIFTS TOWARD THE MID-ATL COASTLINE ON THURS... AS
THE AFOREMENTIONED SOUTHERN STREAM WAVE PHASES WITH A NORTHERN
STREAM TROUGH DIGGING IN FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND INDUCE A NEW
SURFACE LOW ALONG THE NC COAST. THIS LOW WILL INTENSIFY RAPIDLY
AND TRACK NORTHEASTWARD UP ALONG THE MID ATLANTIC/NORTHEAST
COAST... AS THE PHASED TROUGH ASSUMES A NEGATIVE TILT. THE
GUIDANCE ALL HAVE THIS FORECAST SCENARIO OF A CLASSIC COASTAL
WINTER STORM BUT STILL DIFFER ON SOME OF THE IMPORTANT DETAILS...
MAINLY THE CRITICAL THERMAL PROFILES AND IF THE TREMENDOUS
ATLANTIC INFLOW HAS AN IMPACT OR NOT ON THE RAIN/SNOW LINE. LIKE
THE LAST FEW NIGHTS... WPC STAYED VERY CLOSE TO A BLEND/COMPROMISE
OF THE GFS/ECMWF AND SREF MEAN ON SYNOPTIC SCALE FEATURES BUT
CLOSER TO THE ECMWF/SREF MEAN FOR THERMAL PROFILES... AS THE GFS
APPEARS TO CONTAIN SOME FEEDBACK ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COASTLINE
THAT IS NOT ONLY IMPACTING THERMALS BUT KEEPING QPF AMOUNTS LOWER
OVER THE MID-ATL REGION. THUS WPC STILL EXPECTS A HEALTHY AXIS OF
HEAVY DEFORMATION/DYNAMIC COOLING SNOWFALL JUST WEST OF I95 OR
MORE SNOW FOR DC/BALT UP THROUGH ERN PA INTO INTERIOR NEW ENGLAND.

...UPPER MS VALLEY/GREAT LAKES INTO OH VALLEY...

ZONAL FLOW OUT OVER THE PAC WILL STREAM NUMEROUS SHORT WAVE
IMPULSES THROUGH THE NWRN PORTION OF THE COUNTRY AND THESE SYSTEMS
WILL GET CAUGHT UP IN THE NRN STREAM TO DIVE AND AMPLIFY OVER THE
CENTER OF THE COUNTRY. THE FIRST SUCH FEATURE MOVING INTO THE NW
EARLIER TONIGHT WILL TRACK ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST/UPPER MS
VALLEY OVERNIGHT WED INTO THURS. THIS SHORT WAVE AND DECENT
SURFACE LOW WILL HAVE MINIMAL LOW LEVEL MOISTURE TO WORK WITH
REQUIRING STRONG DYNAMICS FORCING FOR AN AXIS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES
FROM NERN ND THROUGH NRN MN TO THE UP OF MI. ON THE HEELS OF THIS
SYSTEM... WILL BE ANOTHER PROGRESSIVE PAC SHIRT WAVE BUT THIS
SYSTEM WILL DIVE THROUGH THE NRN PLAINS/UPPER MIDWEST TO THE OH/TN
VALLEYS AND REACH THE ERN SEABOARD. EXPECT MINIMAL MOISTURE
AVAILABILITY AND STREAK OF DYNAMICALLY INDUCED SNOW ACROSS THE OH
VALLEY INTO THE NRN/CENTRAL APPALACHIANS.

...PACIFIC NORTHWEST TO THE NORTHERN ROCKIES...

A STEADY STREAM OF UPPER DYNAMICS WILL PROGRESS INTO THE NW QUAD
OF THE COUNTRY FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. A BATCH OF POWERFUL
SHORT WAVE DYNAMICS WILL APPROACH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST LATE WED
INTO THURS AND THIS SHOULD RESULT IN HEAVY SNOW FROM THE WA
CASCADES INTO THE NORTHERN INTER-MOUNTAIN WEST. THEN LATE
THURS-EARLY FRI... A CLOSED UPPER LOW ROUNDING THE BASE OF THE
LONG-WAVE TROUGH OVER THE PAC WILL TAKE AIM FOR BRITISH COLUMBIA
RESULTING IN ANOTHER SURGE OF PAC MOISTURE TRANSPORT. OVERALL OVER
THE THREE DAYS... PROBS WILL BE EXTREMELY HIGH FROM THE CASCADES
TO INTER-MOUNTAIN WEST.
