Tom Clancy, whose complex, adrenaline-fueled military novels spawned a new genre of
thrillers and made him one of the world’s best-selling and best-known
authors, died on Tuesday in a hospital in Baltimore. He was 66.

Scary - he was my age

side note 2 is he's a part owner of the Orioles

Side note 1 he got his start at the Naval Institute in Annapolis

Side note 1B is that war games are popular in these parts - by that i mean after hours roll-your-own simulations

He was very active in those as were several others of the military history fiction guys

Larry Bonds, who has a bunch of books in his own name co-wrote Red Storm Rising with particular focus on LandWar Mechanized/Armored warfare.

Basis for that was the Army "Fulda Gap" wargaming of massed hords of Soviet Armor pouring into Fermany.

It also played a part in the how-to's of the Gulf War Battle of 73 Easting.

Sad to see this as he was one of my favorite writers.

Scary that he was one of first to write about using jet liners as terrorist weapons before they actually used them as such.
