Statement as of 12:45 PM EST on January 30, 2013
Tornado Warning
Quote:The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Cherokee County in north central Georgia
northern Cobb County in north central Georgia
north central Fulton County in north central Georgia
southeastern Bartow County in northwest Georgia
Paulding County in northwest Georgia

* until 130 PM EST

* at 1241 PM EST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado 9 miles
southwest of Dallas... moving northeast at 65 mph.

* Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to
Hiram... Emerson... Acworth... Kennesaw... Woodstock... Mountain Park...
Holly Springs... Canton... Waleska... Buffington... Milton... Free Home
and Ball Ground.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When a Tornado Warning is issued based on Doppler radar... it means
that strong rotation has been detected in the storm. A tornado may
already be on the ground... or is expected to develop shortly. If you
are in the path of this dangerous storm... move indoors and to a
basement or interior room on the ground floor. Stay away from
windows. If driving... do not seek shelter under a Highway overpass.

Heavy rainfall may obscure this tornado. Take cover now! If you wait
to see or hear it coming... it will be too late to get to a safe
place.

If you see wind damage... hail or flooding... wait until the storm has
passed... and then call the National Weather Service toll free at 1 8
6 6 7 6 3 4 4 6 6. You can also tweet your report using hashtag gawx.

Quote:ATLANTA —

One person is dead in the wake of a tornado in Adairsville Wednesday morning, Bartow County Emergency Management Center said.

Emergency management said it has set up a triage command post on Cherry Street and Highway 41.

Channel 2's Craig Lucie said a dog was rescued from an Adairsville home where its owner was killed.

Channel 2's Ross Cavitt said a tornado formed directly in front of him as he arrived in Adairsville. Cars in the area were flipped over and several homes were damaged.

Interstate 75 was closed in both directions at exit 306 in Adairsville due to trees in the road, but has since reopened.

Meriwether, Pile, Troup and Upson counties are under a tornado warning.

Most of Georgia is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m.

Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County, Paulding and DeKalb County schools have canceled after school activities for Wednesday.

Reports of damage began to stream in late Wednesday morning. The Floyd County emergency manager told Channel 2 someone was trapped inside a home on Dogwood Street due to a fallen tree.

Much of Georgia is also under a high wind warning, with gusts up to 50 mph possible in north Georgia, and up to 35 mph in metro Atlanta.

A flood watch went into effect at 5 a.m. Wednesday for some of the far north Georgia counties along with a high wind warning for some of the higher elevation in the north Georgia mountains.
