Quote:Today, State Police Troop I arrested an Alabama man after he led troopers and deputies on a pursuit through three parishes.

On June 11, 2012, at 11:45 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a 1993 Acura Legend following another vehicle too close on I-10 eastbound at milepost 115. The driver, 37-year-old Bryan K. Yates of Daleville, AL, pulled over at a gas station on LA 347. When asked, by troopers, to exit the vehicle Yates sped away in an attempt to evade troopers. A pursuit was initiated as Yates drove back onto I-10 eastbound. Troopers continued to pursue Yates onto the Atchafalaya Bridge, through St. Martin Parish and Iberville Parish. As he exited the Basin Bridge troopers were assisted by the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and State Police Troop A. After entering West Baton Rouge Parish, troopers were joined by the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. As a trooper pulled ahead of Yates in an attempt to stop him, Yates steered toward the trooper attempting to hit his unit.

When Yates approached milepost 151, the LA Highway 415 overpass, he tried to pass a 2007 International box truck on the left shoulder. The front of Yates' vehicle struck the rear of the truck. After the crash, Yates exited the vehicle and tried run from troopers. He was captured and placed under arrest a few feet from his car.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash. Yates, who was also suspected of being under the influence of narcotics, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Once he is released from the hospital, Yates will be booked into the West Baton Rouge Jail then transported to the St. Martin Parish Jail where he will be booked for following too close, speeding, careless operation, resisting an officer, aggravated flight from an officer, improper lane use, no seatbelt, DWI, aggravated assault, failure to signal and possession of crack cocaine.
