Preparing for Hurricane Season
I know you already mentioned money, but I want to point out ATMs will not work for a while. Have whatever you can spare available.

Also, most of us have boats. I secured mine to a solid fence post away from trees and plugged it so it would fill with water. The weight of the water helps keep the boat from flailing about in the wind.

Don't expect cell phones to work afterwards. Do you have your insurance agent's phone number? Keep it handy and know where you can go to make the call. Have one person who you will call as soon as you can. Let them pass the word that you survived to family and friends. Also, you might want to take pictures of the house both inside and out to easily document damage. And take more pics after the storm and before you fix anything. The adjuster will need to know when any improvements were made, too.

Expect anything not tied down and some things that are tied down to disappear. This weekend is a great time to tidy up the yard so you don't need to do that in a hurry. Trim trees. Think about rain water drainage and how to improve it. Look up. Do you have an old antenna on a shaky pole?

Hurricane Katrina was the biggest blast my late husband and I enjoyed. We were prepared. We survived.

Also, a great idea is to have a magnesium fire starter, in case the matches get waterlogged, or the lighter fails to work.

bump--It's that time of the year again. They say it is going to be a slow one. That is what they said in 92 and I got whammed by Andrew. Never let your guard down, always be prepared.
