what kind of metal roof - there are "Metal" shingle roofs as well as things like corrugated

In any case if you're putting on a roof I don't think so as long as you remember it changes your ground plane

at the same time if you're Not putting a new roof on your existing antenna .............

My experience w/ metal type roofs is that your reception goes to hell when under the roof. Your fm/am radio, cordless phone, tv and your cb/ham radios. Now if you have your tv and cb/ham mounted outside and above roof you should not have any problems.

I agree with that!

If you [the reader] are a 'radio nut' think of the difference between say a 2watt handheld inside a car to a 2 watt 'mobile' rigged into a mounted 'car antenna', particularly if you want omni and put your antenna in the middle of the roof, in other words in the middle of the 'ground plane'

BTW is the 'metal roof' something you're looking at or something already in place? I'm asking that because I just had to put in a new roof and used a 'non metal' 50 year shingle: the Premium shingles higher priced than what I got were "Metal Roof" shingles....

Back on Antennas - check out the ARRL Antenna book - even the ancient edition I had got into things like parabolic reflectors, Helical antennas, Phasing, Ground Plane

...Oh and EMP effects
