Snow on or near Christmas in the South
Huntsville NWS, which is normally very conservative, starting to add some snow chances:
FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...

Quote:TEMPERATURES SHOULD BE JUST WARM ENOUGH TO KEEP IT A VERY COLD
RAIN WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S TO AROUND 40S DEGREES
DURING THE DAY ON FRIDAY AS OVERRUNNING OCCURS. HOWEVER...BY
EVENING COULD SEE A BRIEF CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW IN PORTIONS OF
NORTHEASTERN ALABAMA. HOWEVER...INTERESTS IN NORTHERN ALABAMA
SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESSION OF THIS SYSTEM CLOSELY AS THE WEEK
ROLLS ON. AT THIS POINT HOLDING OFF ON ACCUMULATIONS...BUT IN
DEKALB OR JACKSON COUNTIES A VERY LIGHT DUSTING MAY BE POSSIBLE
FRIDAY NIGHT.

SHOULD SEE A BREAK IN FORCING AND THE DEPTH OF THE MOISTURE FROM
THIS SYSTEM AS IT PUSHES FURTHER EAST INTO THE ATLANTIC COAST
LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. ALTHOUGH WE WILL REMAIN CLOUDY...RAIN CHANCES
SHOULD DROP OFF...BEFORE ANOTHER PIECE OF ENERGY PUSHES SOUTH AROUND
THE BACK SIDE OF THE LOW ON SATURDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY RISE
INTO THE LOWER 40S BEFORE DROPPING AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON BACK
INTO THE MID OR UPPER 30S. MOISTURE DOES NOT LOOK TOO BAD BASED ON
FORECAST SOUNDINGS...BUT QPF IS VERY LIGHT. HOWEVER...BASED ON
FORCING AND DEPTH OF MOISTURE IN THE SOUNDINGS HAVE ADDED A 20 TO
30 POP ON SATURDAY...WITH THE HIGHEST POP AFTER NOON THROUGH 6 PM.
THIS PRECIPITATION SHOULD BE ALL SNOW. NOT SURE IF ACCUMULATION
WOULD OCCUR DUE TO THE LIGHT QPF PRODUCED BY MODELS. COULD NOT
RULE OUT A FEW FLURRIES OR LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS HANGING ON THROUGH
MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY.
CLEARING SHOULD OCCUR SUNDAY MORNING...AS THE LOW QUICKLY EJECTS
NORTHEASTWARD. HOWEVER...A COLD AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL PUSH
INTO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND THROUGH
EARLY NEXT WEEK. MODELS HINT AT MORE FLURRIES ALONG A WEAK FRONT
MONDAY. HOWEVER...TOO FAR OFF IN THE FORECAST TO ADD AT THIS
POINT. OVERALL TEMPERATURES WERE LOWERED SLIGHTLY EARLY NEXT WEEK.
