Absolutely beautiful fall day in the mountains. Low 50's right now. Rains and wind last couple of days will spell the end of the leaves,I'm afraid. I would say 60%-70% of the leaves are down already. Still no freeze at my cabin yet.

Cool...Low 40's on the porch right now. It will be a beautiful day. All of the Florida folks we call neighbors are packing up and heading back down that-a-way. Very soon we will be the only occupants of the mountain till next spring.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
530 AM EST WED NOV 18 2009

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
COLD FRONT SLOWLY WORKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THIS
MORNING...CURRENTLY ALONG A LINE ROUGHLY FROM ELLIJAY TO ATLANTA AND
AMERICUS. SOME CLEARING CURRENTLY OCCURRING ACROSS EASTERN ALABAMA
INTO FAR WESTERN GEORGIA...HOW FAR THIS WORKS EAST AND HOW QUICKLY IS
STILL A BIT OF A QUESTION. I DO NOT EXPECT MUCH INITIAL PUSH EAST
WITH THIS CLEARING LINE...BUT IT SHOULD START SWEEPING EAST BY LATE
THIS AFTERNOON. WITH THE UPPER LEVEL AND SURFACE LOWS MOVING MORE
NORTHERLY THAN EASTERLY THROUGH TODAY THE EASTWARD PUSH OF THE
SURFACE FRONT AND MOISTURE WILL REMAIN RELATIVELY SLOW. SLOW CLEARING
CONTINUES OVERNIGHT WITH DRIER AIR SPREADING OVER THE ENTIRE FORECAST
AREA BY THURSDAY...CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
GFS AND ECMWF MODELS ARE CLOSER TOGETHER CONCERNING THE NEXT SYSTEM
EXPECTED TO ROLL THROUGH THE REGION THIS WEEKEND. IN FACT THE GFS IS
NOW THE MORE PROGRESSIVE OF THE TWO MODELS BRINGING THE BEST
PRECIPITATION THROUGH THE AREA SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. THE ECMWF
IS A BIT SLOWER WITH THE BEST PRECIPITATION CHANCES SATURDAY NIGHT
AND SUNDAY. THIS IS A MUCH CLOSER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE TWO MODELS
THAN AT THIS TIME YESTERDAY...AND I HAVE ONCE AGAIN POPULATED THE
EXTENDED PERIOD GRIDS WITH THE GFS AND MADE SLIGHT ADJUSTMENTS TO
ACCOMMODATE FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR A SLIGHTLY SLOWER EVOLUTION OF THIS
SYSTEM. GENERAL UPPER LEVEL PATTERN REMAINS FAIRLY PROGRESSIVE
THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE EXTENDED FORECAST PERIOD WITH THE
MAJORITY OF THE SHORT WAVE ENERGY CONCENTRATED ACROSS THE NORTHERN
HALF OF THE COUNTRY. A QUICK MOVING...AND FAIRLY STRONG...UPPER LEVEL
SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO SWEEP THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY NEXT WEEK. MODELS
CURRENTLY KEEP BEST UPPER SUPPORT NORTH OF THE AREA BUT DRAG A DECENT
COLD FRONT THROUGH THE REGION AROUND TUESDAY WITH ANOTHER CHANCE FOR
PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA.

&&

.AVIATION...
COLD FRONT BETWEEN ATLANTA AND ATHENS THIS MORNING...MOVING SLOWLY
EAST. LIFR CEILINGS SHOULD GRADUALLY LIFT TO MVFR BY LATE MORNING AS
DRIER AIR CONTINUES TO PUSH INTO THE STATE. SKIES CLEARING WEST
PORTION OF THE STATE BY AFTERNOON...WITH CLOUDS REMAING MOST OF THE
EAST HALF. WINDS BECOMING NORTHWEST 5 TO 10KT. VISIBILITY LESS THAN
3SM IN FOG SOME AREAS THIS MORNING...IMPROVING TO P6SM AFTER 15Z.
