Memphis is even getting some love

Quote:FOCUS SHIFTS BACK WEST WHERE A STRONG SHORTWAVE...ACTUALLY A
CLOSED LOW...TRANSLATES THROUGH THE CENTRAL PLAINS FRIDAY NIGHT.
THIS WILL PRODUCE SOME WINTRY PRECIP FOR MUCH OF THE MIDSOUTH ON
SATURDAY. MODELS ARE IN EXCELLENT AGREEMENT AND FORECAST SOUNDINGS
SHOW RAIN TRANSITIONING TO SNOW AROUND NOON. THE TRACK OF THE
CLOSED UPPER LOW HANDLED BY THE GFS...NAM AND ECMWF WILL BE WELL
WEST AND SOUTH OF THE FORECAST AREA. THIS PUTS THE MIDSOUTH IN A
PRIME AREA FOR SNOWFALL. AT THIS TIME...BEST GUESS WOULD BE UP TO
TWO INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS PARTS OF THE FORECAST
AREA. THIS HINGES ON THE EXACT TRACK OF THE UPPER LOW...SO
SOMETHING TO WATCH IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

SNOW SHOULD END EARLY SUNDAY OVER N MS. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD
INTO THE AREA SUNDAY.
MAX TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY REACH THE LOWER
TO MID 40S...SO THE COLD AIR WILL BE AROUND THROUGH THE WHOLE
WEEKEND REMINDING US THAT IT IS STILL WINTER. HOWEVER TEMPERATURES
WILL BEGIN TO MODERATE BACK TO NEAR NORMAL BY TUESDAY.

From Ch2 in Atlanta

Quote:Winter Storm Could Dump 2-4 Inches Of Snow On Atlanta

Friday, February 27, 2009 – updated: 12:16 pm EST February 27, 2009
ATLANTA -- The forecasts are still evolving, but most signs are pointing towards a winter storm dumping 2-4 inches of snow on metro Atlanta and north Georgia by Sunday.

Even before the snow starts falling heavy rain could cause flooding across the area.

A flood watch is in effect for most of north Georgia through Saturday morning.

"Rain will move in Friday and stay around through Saturday," said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton. "We'll get 2-3 inches, with some areas in the mountains getting up to four inches."

Once the rain moves through, cold air will rush in, Minton explained.

"There may be enough moisture in the air for us to get snow," she added. "The computer models are all predicting snow, the big question is 'how much?'"

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz explained the forecasting models are evolving. "There's still a bit of uncertainty," Nitz said. "Right now the bull's eye is Athens and towards Eatonton," he said at noon on Friday.

Minton expects the snow to begin falling early Sunday morning with 2-4 inches accumulating in metro Atlanta.

"We'll be keeping a close eye on this, because things can change very quickly," she added.
