Also, there is no reason for $4 a gallon gas with oil at less than $100 a barrel, we're just getting gouged. The world does need renewable energy, and windfarms and solarfarms are not bad ideas. Neither are hybrid (electric) vehicles and geothermal/green homes. These will create jobs and create solution, as we're seeing here in Ontario right now. Gas is going to remain high, but we're looking at ways to counter it. More drilling (or extracting from the oil sand in Alberta), we know, won't be dramatic enough to reduce prices in gas for years, maybe over a decade. It's time to look outside the "drill more" solution as the Final Solution.

Bah, maybe I shouldn't have capitalized "final solution"
Bingo. That money used to build offshore rigs (which would be damaged or destroyed in hurricanes... people at this site should know that) should be invested in alternate energy. We're going to need huge infrastructure changes in the next 20 years, or we're going to start being in for a world of hurt once the oil wells run dry (or we piss the wrong person off).

Anybody else find it odd that now they want to cancel the VP debate? I'm pretty tired of the GOP completely sheltering Palin. I want to see her speak off the cuff to some real questions, not just Sean Hannity softballs.

Sean Hannity is fair and balanced. This is Hannity's America.

This "rescue bill" is a complete mistake. There has to be an alternative and the scary thing is I don't hear anyone talking about an alternative. All I know is I better start receiving quarterly dividends for Fannie Mae/Mac and from these other wall street companies should the bailout go through. Oh, yeah, and I want McCain to win only because Sarah Palin is hot and I couldn't bare to not see her on the boob tube anymore. Anyone who thinks Obama or McCain can bring "change" to this nation is living in the clouds. The special interest groups running congress run this country. So much for our republic of states.

Winner, except for the wanting McCain to win thing. Any reason is a bad one.

Move to Russia, you can see Palin from there.

Drilling more won't get you out of the problem, it's only part of the solution. -Agree

Also, there is no reason for $4 a gallon gas with oil at less than $100 a barrel, we're just getting gouged. -Agree The $4 comment was meant to say, I would rather see my money remain in the US and not go overseas.

The world does need renewable energy, and windfarms and solarfarms are not bad ideas. -Agree.. Tell that to the conservationist. "A proposed 283 megawatt wind farm to be built in South Texas was given the green light after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit that would suspend construction."

The suit was filed by the conservation group Coastal Habitat Alliance, who questioned the ecological soundness of the project; namely, its impact on migratory birds and various endangered species in the Gulf Coast region.

Neither are hybrid (electric) vehicles and geothermal/green homes. These will create jobs and create solution, as we're seeing here in Ontario right now. It's time to look outside the "drill more" solution as the Final Solution. -Agree.. Oil is not the final solution. We must find friendly alternatives.

Bah, maybe I shouldn't have capitalized "final solution"

We need more nuke power plants. France gets 80% of their electric power from nukes.

Only people with oversized egos believe that mankind has caused global warming.

Scientific Consensus is an Oxymoron

The only reason I say to drill now is because the fact of the matter is, and we have all seen it, that all of these plans are great...BUT most, if not all, of these idea will just sit on a drawing table forever, just extending the problem and adding to the number of people going "We need to do something!! We are all screwed!!" DJ put everything just right, which we all know he is good at for the most part. Looking at how oil prices MAGICALLY fell all of a sudden, I don't think there is a need to drill right now, but these alternatives need to be put into affect.

Wind seems like the best thing at the moment, especially with the abundance of land that can be used. Solar is also a great choice, but its price/efficiency is a little off right now, but there are major strides in increasing efficiency. Actually heard some physics researchers during classes last year talking about an over 80% efficiency solar panel, where usual are around 40% I believe. One area I wish people would look into is like hydro-electric power but uses strong tide movements. And then of course, there is nuclear power, but people will object that till the end of time, which it could lead to. Also, there are no good ways to store by-product. All these things would be nice and it only takes money....just the one thing that no one has anymore.

The beauty with wind is it doesn't HAVE to be on land. It can be out in the water, which usually means more wind, too.
