...SIGNIFICANT WEATHER CHANGES EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTH MISSISSIPPI AND
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...

A STRONG...AND COMPLEX...WEATHER PATTERN DEVELOPING OVER THE PLAINS
AND TEXAS TODAY...IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE REGION WEDNESDAY THROUGH
SATURDAY. THIS WEATHER PATTERN WILL BRING THE THREAT OF SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE AREA WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...AND A
THREAT OF WINTER WEATHER TO THE AREA FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY NIGHT...AS
MUCH COLDER AIR MOVES INTO THE REGION.

THIS AFTERNOON...AN AREA OF ARCTIC AIR IS DIVING SOUTH THROUGH THE
CENTRAL PLAINS AND TOWARD THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY. AT THE SAME
TIME...A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPING OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS
AND TEXAS. AHEAD OF THE LOW...SOUTHERLY WINDS BROUGHT WARM AND MOIST
AIR INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI.

TONIGHT AND TOMORROW...THE JET STREAM PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO BECOME
FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. DUE TO THE
WARMTH AND MOISTURE FEEDING INTO THE REGION...AN UNSTABLE AIRMASS IS
EXPECTED TO DEVELOP TOMORROW AFTERNOON. THIS UNSTABLE
AIRMASS...COMBINED WITH EXPECTED STRONG AND FAVORABLE WINDS AND THE
APPROACHING COLD FRONT WILL PRODUCE A RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING. DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW
ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE THE MAIN THREAT FROM THESE THUNDERSTORMS.

ARCTIC AIR WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE REGION THURSDAY AS THE FRONT PULLS
INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL THROUGH THE DAY FROM
THE 40S TO THE 30S. BRISK NORTH WINDS WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILL
READINGS IN THE UPPER TEENS AND 20S THURSDAY NIGHT. FRIDAY WILL SEE
TEMPERATURES STRUGGLE TO BREAK OUT OF THE 30S. AT THE SAME TIME...AN
AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DEVELOP IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. THE EXACT
PATH OF THE LOW IS STILL UNCERTAIN...BUT SOME MOISTURE IS EXPECTED TO
MOVE BACK INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND COASTAL MISSISSIPPI. AS A
RESULT...A MIX OF LIGHT WINTRY PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE ACROSS
COASTAL MISSISSIPPI AND NORTH OF CHALMETTE TO HOUMA LINE IN SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA. THE NORTHERN EXTENT OF THIS PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN SOUTH OF A BATON ROUGE TO BOGALUSA LINE. LITTLE OR NO
ACCUMULATION OF SLEET OR SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE REGION DUE TO
CONTINUED WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER...SOME MINOR
ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE ON EXPOSED SURFACES SUCH AS BRIDGES...POWER
LINES...AND ROOFS OF BUILDINGS.

CHRISTMAS MORNING WILL SEE THE COLDEST AIR SO FAR THIS SEASON...WITH
TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TO DROP INTO THE UPPER TEENS AND LOWER 20S
NORTH OF LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN AND THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 20S SOUTH OF THE
LAKE. STRONG NORTH WINDS WILL CONTINUE...CREATING DANGEROUS WIND
CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS NORTH OF THE LAKE AND ALONG THE COAST OF
MISSISSIPPI...AND WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS SOUTH OF THE LAKE.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...LOCAL TV AND RADIO FOR LATER
STATEMENTS CONCERNING THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER EVENT.
