Weather Developments for the Tampa area Tuesday and Wednesday:

NWS Office in Ruskin, Florida at 1:38 p.m. EST on November 24, 2009

Short Term (Tonight Through Thanksgiving Day)...A Stationary boundary remains draped across the central peninsula allowing plenty of moisture to stream in from the southwest.

Thunderstorms have already developed in our northern near and off shore waters with more showers to the west. A couple of weak boundaries are starting to show up on Radar from Penellas County southeastward towards Highlands. These boundaries have started to develop some showers as they move NNW with the SFC-850 Flow.

For this Afternoon and Tonight...Rainfall chances will be increasing through the day as plenty of moisture will advect in our region along with the stationary boundary. 12Z sounding showed fairly decent thermodynamic parameters this morning so there will be some support for isolated strong thunderstorms this afternoon.

For Wednesday...A weak surface Low developing in the central GOMEX is expected to track eastward towards West Central Florida. Showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the associated cold front are expected to push into our region early tomorrow morning and persist through late tomorrow. Bumped up POPS to 70 tomorrow and tapered off through the night. Plenty of cloud cover over the region will help limit thermodynamics and overall strong/severe thunderstorm formation. Even with the lack of thermodynamics...0-6KM Bulk shear along with the surface boundary remains pretty impressive so isolated severe thunderstorms or an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

By Thanksgiving...The Front gradually pushes south of our area by late Thursday morning. Rainfall chances will decrease north to south as cooler and drier air filters in from the north. By the afternoon...High pressure sets in the entire CWA allowing mostly Sunny skies to prevail.

I think we are beginning to see the winter development of the effects El Nino will have on our weather. This past weekend (21st-22nd time frame), a low pressure formed and moved northeast from the western Gulf of Mexico and pushed a cold front through which stalled over south-central Florida. This front is still there with another low pressure developing on the southern jet streaking across the western Pacific into the Gulf of Mexico. This low will move out of the central Gulf across Florida on Wednesday the 25th. Eventually a cold front will drop down and cool off temps, but another storm system is forecast to develop by the Monday time-frame, the 30th.

Gulf Water Temp is 72°

Forecast for Wednesday the 25th:
Today: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. North northeast wind around 7 mph.
