We're in a gradual cool down. This morning was windy but by afternoon the sun was out and it was really pleasant.

I went across the street and liberated a few oranges from the grove. /blink/ and also enjoyed the clouds that were zipping by.

Nice day and just another reason I'm glad I don't live in Massachusetts any more. /thumbup

Witnessed one cloud to ground lightning strike ahead of the main squall line this evening at St. Pete Beach. A few more flashes of lightning joined the moderate rainfall that moved in after dark. Not raining here in Orlando yet, but forecast calls for Strong Thunderstorms.

I have seen no lightning or heard thunder with this but had some very heavy rain

Central Florida - virgo10 - 01-17-2010 08:54 AM

We did have some thunder and lightning last night. It was quite a ways off in the distance though. After last week's deep freeze, I thought I was hallucinating when the sky started lighting up. :icon_bigg

I was amazed at how brown the grass is throughout Central Florida right now...

No rain in 25 days. It's really krispie out there. For the first time in weeks there's at least a slim possibility of rain by mid week. I've got my fingers crossed. Getting tired of watering every night.

Bumping this old thread now that I am back in Central FL. Cool

The rains from 91L have been piling up in many areas of the Peninsula. I have only seen about five minutes of rain and a few sprinkles today, but other areas, like Citrus County, have collected quite a lot. Flash Flood watches are in effect for most of the west central Florida:

Had a brief downpour around 330 this afternoon. Skies were sunny again until 5, when things darkened and storms formed overhead. Had a few nice crashes of thunder to go along with a half hour of moderate to heavy rain. Things have tapered down now, but it was good to hear some decent thunder for the first time since February 24th!

Central Florida - Alex - 06-11-2013 07:18 PM

Scored another thunderstorm around 1 pm today. About a dozen or so claps of thunder and one nice peal too. A good downpour as well and the rain has been adding up. This graphic from the NWS sums it up nicely:

RE: Central Florida - Alex - 09-02-2014 11:29 AM

It really was a lackluster rainy season:

Sarasota-Bradenton weather dry this summer

Quote: This summer, the Manatee-Sarasota area was not in complete sync with normal rain patterns.

Since June 1, the Manatee-Sarasota area has received 13.1 inches of rain, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Robert Garcia.

"That is 11.53 inches below normal -- normal would be 24.63 inches," he said over the phone Monday afternoon. "In terms of some of the other areas, the interior Manatee County has seen a little more rain over the summer than along the coast and it's been a little bit drier in Sarasota County."
