Tornado Warning

Statement as of 4:51 PM EDT on October 09, 2008

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
east Central Lake County in east central Florida...
this includes the cities of... Paisley... Mount Plymouth... Cassia...

central Volusia County in east central Florida...
this includes the cities of... Osteen... Orange City... Lake Monroe...
Lake Helen... Deltona... De Land...

* until 545 PM EDT

* at 447 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Cassia...
moving east-northeast at 25 mph.

* The tornado will be near...
de bary by 515 PM EDT...
Orange City... 6 miles north of Lake Monroe and 7 miles south of De
Land by 520 PM EDT...
Lake Helen and Deltona by 530 PM EDT...
8 miles north of Osteen by 535 PM EDT...

This storm is capable of producing a tornado at any time. People in
the path of this storm should act now in order to protect themselves.
Do not wait for the tornado to develop before acting... you may not
see or hear its approach. Do not get caught off guard!

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a strong building on
the lowest floor... in an interior room such as a bathroom or closet.
Keep away from windows. Get under a workbench or other piece of
sturdy furniture. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body.

Evacuate Mobile homes or vehicles for more substantial shelter. If no
shelter is available... lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low
spot and cover your head with your hands.

AT 508 PM EDT...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WITH STRONG ROTATION. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED
3 MILES EAST OF CASSIA...MOVING EAST AT 25 MPH.

THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR...
DE BARY BY 515 PM EDT...
ORANGE CITY...ENTERPRISE...DE LAND SOUTHWEST AND 6 MILES NORTH OF
LAKE MONROE BY 520 PM EDT...
CASSADAGA...LAKE HELEN AND DELTONA BY 530 PM EDT...
LAKE ASHBY BY 545 PM EDT...

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR IS INDICATING VERY STRONG
ROTATION. A VIOLENT TORNADO MAY FORM AT ANY TIME AS THIS
THUNDERSTORM MOVES TOWARD DE BARY. NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE COVER IN
THE DE BARY AREA. TAKE COVER NOW. TAKE COVER NOW.

WHEN A TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED BASED ON DOPPLER RADAR...IT MEANS
THAT STRONG ROTATION HAS BEEN DETECTED IN THE STORM. A TORNADO MAY
ALREADY BE ON THE GROUND.IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS DANGEROUS
STORM...MOVE INDOORS AND TO THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE BUILDING. STAY

damaging winds in excess of 58 mph. This storm was located near
lake helen...and moving east at 25 mph.

* other locations in the warning include...but are not limited
to... Osteen...maytown...daytona beach...port orange...ormond
beach...holly hill...south daytona...new smyrna
beach...edgewater...wilbur by the sea...ponce inlet...oak
hill...bethune beach...eldora and apollo beach

severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds in excess of 58 miles an
hour and or large destructive hail. Frequent to excessive lightning

located along a line extending from union park to pine castle...
Or along a line extending from goldenrod to oak ridge ridge...and
moving east at 20 mph.

Very dark skies just a few minutes ago. Now there's the green hue to the skie, though the storms are all just north now.

That small whitish blip on the bottom of the dark cloud was a jet. We don't see many of them flying into the local airports so I thought it was pretty cool.
