We've had .23" since April 6th. We had 1.40" that day and hardly any since. But the humidity came up big time today and the moisture is getting set up, now all we need is a trigger to set it off. I doubt Friday will be the day for that, maybe Monday.

Central Florida - The Bug - 05-10-2008 05:07 PM

We are here in Highlands County and no rain in a while...everything is brown and dead. It is quite disgusting.

Central Florida - ocala - 05-10-2008 10:37 PM

Looks like Sunday is the day. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 05-11-2008 10:14 PM

Nope. Nothin'. Just a lot of wind at this point and the humidity is high.

Central Florida - ocala - 05-12-2008 10:33 AM

I went to bed Saturday night and the NWS forecasted a 70% chance for Sunday. Woke up and that dwindled down to 20%. Grrrr.
I did get a passing shower though. Counted 43 drops of rain on my deck.
Woohooo!

Central Florida - The Bug - 05-12-2008 06:42 PM

we got about 10 minutes of rain on Sunday here...it wasn't enough to really help out. The lakes are so low!

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 05-12-2008 10:32 PM

Ocala, congratulations on gettin 43 raindrops. We had none.

Central Florida - ocala - 05-16-2008 01:49 PM

Well, another chance of rain for today. Hopefully the rain will make it down here.
As for Sunday, the Tampa Weather discussion had this to say. Hopefully it comes true.

LONG TERM (SUNDAY NIGHT-FRIDAY)...AN AMPLIFIED PATTERN WILL REMAIN
ENTRENCHED OVER THE NATION WITH A BROAD TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE OVER
THE EASTERN SEABOARD EARLY IN THE PERIOD. A MID LEVEL BOUNDARY IS
EXPECTED TO LINGER OVER CENTRAL FLORIDA ALONG THE BASE OF THE TROUGH
WITH A PLUME OF MOIST AIR MOVING IN ALOFT OFF THE GULF. BOTH THE GFS
AND ECMWF SOLUTIONS FINALLY HAVE COME IN LINE ON THIS
SCENARIO...ALTHOUGH THE ECMWF HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY INDICATING SUCH
AN EVENT FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 4 DAYS. IF THIS SITUATION COMES TO
PASS EXPECT A SHOWERY AND WET PERIOD BEGINNING SUNDAY NIGHT AND
LINGERING THROUGH LATE MONDAY.
THE MID LEVEL FRONT WILL PROGRESS
EAST OF THE AREA BY TUESDAY WITH UNSETTLED WEATHER

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 05-16-2008 10:25 PM

They're saying the farther north of Tampa you are the better chance of rain (only 20% here), so we'll see. Since I live 40-45 miles north of Tampa, I guess where I live qualifies.

The mugginess has returned on southwest winds.

Central Florida - Alex - 05-18-2008 08:45 PM

The ragged band of rainfall barely made it here this evening before petering out. The backyard fence was almost coated with rain before the clouds dissipated and moved away. So much for anything else.

...Still only 0.09 inches of rain since April 7.

This weekend we headed down to Miami via the coast with a stop in Indian River Shores on a deserted beach. Just north of there, we passed through some of the recent burn areas (some still smoldering). Attached is a photo along U.S. 1 southbound in Malabar.

In Miami the forecast called for patchy smoke over the weekend and it was evident in a hazy form and subtle smell. As far as I know, the Everglades fire was to blame.

I saw a rain shaft in western Broward on the way back north yesterday but nothing else to go with their 10% chance of showers.
