Central Florida - ocala - 12-14-2007 02:24 PM

Looks like our best shot of rain in while starting tomorrow through Sunday.

Central Florida - ocala - 12-16-2007 10:19 AM

2.39 inches from this storm. Man was that some welcome rain. Never really got too bad though. The weather radio got me up about 2:45AM so I just stayed up and enjoyed it.

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 12-16-2007 11:39 PM

2.12 inches in Spring Hill.

Woke up to the weather radio blarring every 30 minutes for Marine Warnings, then Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, and then Tornado Warnings. Great rain, but a long night.

Central Florida - Alex - 12-20-2007 06:35 PM

I missed out on the rain as I was in Summerville, SC on the way northward for the holidays. 1.29 inches of rain fell on Saturday evening into Sunday. Several of the bouts of rain were heavy enough to where they could be overheard from my brother's place over the tv. Haven't heard anything like that since the last of the rainy season's thunderstorms!

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 12-20-2007 11:47 PM

Maybe more on the way as the Radar tonight (Dec. 20th) at 11:45 p.m. is showing activity in the gulf with a strong band about 100 miles west moving east. We will have to see if it holds together.

Central Florida - ocala - 01-03-2008 11:27 AM

Didn't get as cold as forcasted last night. Only 26 here. However the dewpoint at my house was 6.9 yesterday. That's ridiculously dry air to make it this far south.

Central Florida - ChessieStorm - 01-04-2008 10:42 AM

Same here. Forecast was 20° but we had 28° yesterday morning and this morning was around 35-36 I think.

Central Florida - Alex - 01-05-2008 11:24 AM

I did not get back to Florida until the night of 01-03, but it was cold enough to where the windows on the car remained cold the entire drive down!

62 degrees yesterday afternoon never felt so good after three weeks of cold in the northeast (!)

=====

The number of thunderstorm days for the second straight year was well below the average that I thought was supposed to be normal for this part of the state. 62 in Tampa, which was in the 60s in 2006 as well? I question the number for Sarasota-Bradenton at 23. That is a normal year for the northeast, not Florida! The rainfall disparity is quite extreme with Sarasota-Bradenton 20 inches below normal while Tampa and Ft. Myers were within 5 inches of normal.

Central Florida - Alex - 01-14-2008 10:33 PM

Saw my first thunderstorm in forever on Saturday night as I drove into the Orlando area from Tampa. Noted three flashes of lightning amid some heavy rain squalls over Florida Toll 429 leading into the Ocoee area west of Orlando.

Also had some heavy rain in Tampa on Sunday afternoon followed by another rail squall between Mango and Plant City. Rain! What a concept.

Today marked the end of my move from St. Petersburg to Orlando for a new job. I hope to enjoy more rain and thunderstorms here, now that I am away from the pesky sea breezes.
