Canadian trucker fined for smoking on the job

TORONTO (Reuters) – A Canadian truck driver has been fined for smoking in his vehicle because it is considered his workplace, a police spokeswoman said on Friday.
A police officer saw the 48-year-old trucker driving on a highway in southwestern Ontario with a cigarette in his mouth on Wednesday, and gave him a C$305 ($290) ticket.
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, adopted in 2006, prohibits smoking in an enclosed workplace or enclosed public area, and that extends to work vehicles,
said Constable Shawna Coulter of the Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County.
"We enforce the legislation and this truck driver was in violation of that," she said.

Good, he was breaking the law.
Eating greasy pizza is really bad for your health. Should we make it a crime to eat food that is contrary to good vascular health? To serve it to our children?

And don't give me the second-hand smoke argument. It doesn't wash. The pizza vendors are distributing this health hazard just like smokers who do their thing in public. Is smoking in private worse than selling pizza to the public? How many millions of children are fed pizza? Why no public outcry?

Society is collectively stupid.
That's disgusting. That's the U.S. that we DON'T want to go to. Keep the government out of that kind of Bull****. Big brother, cradle to grave, lifestyle police has no place in a free society.
Big brother is a ****ing queer.
What was he smoking?

Ive been thinking about moving to canada for a while now. Hear their pot laws are second only to the Netherlands.
A cigarette. Sounds like a lower cost-of-living California. You can smoke all the reefer you want, just don't fook up and smoke a cig.
Not a personal vehicle, a work vehicle.

So what, if he was the only one in it, what difference shoudl it made. No second hand smoke issue here, just politically correct BS.

I agree, what the hell are we doing arguing about a canadian truck driver being fined for smoking on the job?

Its simple...Dont break the law, dont get fined...Hell, even i can understand that!
