At 1:25 p.m. EDT, the Severe Storms Prediction Center issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch till 9 p.m. for Hernando County. But this is mainly for the eastern part of the county where showers and storms broke out after 1:30 p.m. and moved northeast into Sumter Cty.

Forecast for Thursday the 2nd:
Today: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Areas of dense fog before 9a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. South southwest wind between 8 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with hail and damaging winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
